# Desktop Apps

Datum offers native apps for macOS, Linux and Windows.

Currently those apps help you to quickly and safely expose local environments to the internet using a secure, Rust-based tunnel (built on the [Iroh protocol](https://www.iroh.computer/)) that is connected to an AI Edge on our global network.

* After creating a Tunnel via the desktop app, you'll get a simple https hostname that you can share with anyone. You can also protect it with a simple username and password combo.
* Tunnels can be created in any project, including ones that you share with colleagues (which helps them easily find and see your publicly shareable hostnames).
